Citation by the Barons of Barossa Accompanying Their Winemaker of the Year 2005 Awards
‘In Vino Veritas’ and holding true to its motto Veritas Winery pays attention to every detail from the vineyard to the bottle, to ensure it is producing a range of quality wines that are Barossa by birth and world class in their creation. It all began, in 1955, with the inherent skills of the founders, Rolf and Franziska Binder, using rudimentary wine making facilities in the old tin shed, at their Langmeil Road home in Tanunda. With premium Barossa fruit on hand, Rolf Binder Senior made great traditional style wines and established a solid foundation for his children, daughter Christa and son Rolf.
Both Rolf Binder and Christa Deans attended the world-renowned Roseworthy College to complete their degrees in winemaking. Christa developed her skills further at Wolf Blass and then worked overseas where she specialised in white wine production. Rolf, after several years winemaking in Europe, came home to help his father at Veritas and to take on most of the responsibilities and to building up the reputation of Veritas Wines.
Today, Veritas Winery has achieved great heights, receiving praise from some of the world’s best know wine critics. ‘In wine speaks truth’ and Robert Parker, writer for the Wine Advocate said: "One of my favourite Australian wineries. Veritas’ offerings are never excessively oaked, possesses extraordinary ripe, concentrated fruit, great individuality, and the potential, in the top examples to improve for two decades."
Whilst Rolf is responsible for some of Australia’s most successful red wines and Christa triumphs with quality in the variety of whites produced, both continue to uphold the Veritas philosophy of producing quality, honest and warm hearted wines.
The reputation of Veritas wines continues to grow and grow but will never lose sight of its origins and its main aim to make truly great Barossa wines. Rolf and Christa’s total commitment to the Veritas philosophy played an essential role in securing Veritas Winery’s reputation as a producer of distinguished and internationally acclaimed wines. It is this strong commitment that has earned Rolf Binder and Christa Deans the honour to share the Barons of Barossa Winemaker of the Year award.
