A group of lovely ladies popped into our Tasting Room today for a taste of some of our delicious drops.
From left to right are Karen, Sandra, Carol, Julie, Gillian, and Glenis. Four are from Western Australia, and Carol and Julie are from Victoria.
The wine-region travelling trend first started when the WA girls took off on an annual holiday to the Margaret River Wine Region to try some the local fare there.
Trips to the Eastern states brought the Victorian friends into the group, and this trip has seen the six 'meet in the middle'.
The girls loved all of the wines but their favourite was the 2008 Retro 55 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc.
We don't normally show this wine in the tasting room as it sells out in the shops so quickly, but Julie (Tasting Room Superstar) happened to have one open.
With the production of the Retro 55 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc we endeavoured to make a full flavoured style utilising the weight of Barossa Semillon with the crisp fruit characters of the cooler Limestone Coast Sauvignon Blanc. Its a crisp lemony-fresh wine with hints of lemongrass, gooseberry and lime. Ideal with savoury white fish dishes, or as a Summer quaffer.
The Retro 55 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is paired with its red compatriot, the Retro 55 Shiraz Cabernet, another wine made "just to taste good". The name Retro 55 comes from the current owners, Rolf and Christa, paying homage to the hard work and passion their parents had when starting the Veritas Winery in 1955. The cars give the label a funky and eye-catching twist.

Christa in her early twenties driving grapes along Langmeil road to the
old winery. We used to take grenache from a vineyard on this road and
now it is a housing estate and part of the town of Tanunda.
