Paul and the lads from Burwood Cellars in Melbourne were tasting their way around the Barossa this week.
As retailers of the best wines in Australia, ours included, it was only natural that they would pay us a visit!
Cellar door Wine Stylist, Julie, showed the boys through Christa's gorgeous white wines, some of which they had tried, but very happy to see the consistency of style and quality throughout the range.
A ramble through the cellar to see the fermenter, tanks and barrels, where they were encouraged to ask lots of questions about winemaking and barrel ageing.
Then it was onto the labelling suite, where our sweet labeller, Carlene, has her corner office. Carlene hand labels the majority of our wines, and gets the boxes of wine ready for dispatch. She has worked with us for forty years, and has worked in nearly every aspect of the winemaking process in our company.
The lads took a short stroll outdoors to gaze across the Autumn-toned vineyards, and to take in the beauty of the Barossa, and the brilliant golds and russets of the Chri-Ro Estate, on this cool grey day.
Back to the Tasting Room for the reds, and the Mataro, or Mourvedre, really took their fancy, as a blend of the Heinrich and the Bulls Blood.
Julie opened a bottle of Magpie Estate Black Sock Mourvedre to show the lads what the varietal looked like "neat", and they were amazed and impressed by its richness, the depth of flavour, and the spectrum of flavours. Meat, tobacco, plum, cherry, liquorice, leather - the descriptors kept coming, and none of them were wrong.
The Magpie Estate Black Sock Mourvedre retails at our Tasting Room for $30 a bottle, and can be found in select wine stores throughout Australia, the UK, Canada, and the US.
And it won't be long until it is sold from Burwood Cellars in Melbourne!
