The Cheese and Wine Trail Bag made yet another appearance in the Tasting Room today.
Chris and Lydea, hedonists from Melbourne's beautiful Dandenong Ranges, are visiting the Barossa Valley this week, tasting and treating themselves to all the wonderful food and wines here on offer.
The pair have just returned from Brisbane where they found themselves helping an unwell friend by cleaning and cooking and relieving her of heavy work; and helping Chris' brother unpack in his new home.
Although not begrudging the help they offered, and more than willing to do their share, Chris and Lydea both felt that they needed a holiday after their "holiday".
And, as hedonists at heart, they decided to splurge on a week's holiday in Barossa, as it also may be their last for a while as family planning takes precedence in the near future.
While enjoying the 2004 Magpie Estate Election Shiraz that Wine Stylist Julie opened especially for them, Lydea commented on how rich the berry fruits in the wine were, and how well they would go with a barbequed organic steak from Bill's Butcher, their local and much loved meatery.
The Election is rarely opened for tastings, and very few are made. Robert Parker wrote this about the wine....“The deep, full-bodied, intense, opulent, inky/purple-tinged 2004 Shiraz Election offers loads of toasty oak, blackberry and cassis fruit, smoke, and meaty characteristics. It is a big, mouth-staining Shiraz that fans of Euro-styled, more elegant reds will find too much of a good thing. It should drink well for a decade. 92 Points”
It's always good to try a wine whenever you get the chance.
As Lydea succinctly put it, "it's good for the soul."
