We met Ann and Ian from Adelaide yesterday, discovering the Valley on the Barossa Cheese and Wine Trail. With them they brought their good friends, Hester and Chris from South Africa.

Visitors to our Tasting Room in the beautiful Barossa Valley will notice some interesting artworks on the walls. We run our Tasting Room as an Art Exhibition Space, giving local South Australian artists a chance to show off their new creations, or blow the dust off some of their older pieces. This also gives our Tasting Room a fresh look and atmosphere every month.

I arrived into Asheville after an 'interesting' flight from Birmingham. I am now slowly getting used to delays, gate changes and sitting on tarmacs for no particular reason!
The first evening I was taken out by Josh to a great little pub that served local food and local beer. As my interest in these topics is high, I enjoyed the evening, and naturally, the taste of the local beers. It was then an early night as the effects of a long flight from Australia were finally taking hold.

I was picked up in the afternoon by Blake, one of our wine representatives from The Wine Source in Alabama. A welcome sight after numerous delays coming from New York and Charlotte. Flying into Birmingham Alabama, I was surprised at how hilly and spaced out the town was. I was taken to a new, very modern hotel called the 'A Loft' which is on the edge of town. A quick run up to the room, bag drop, and then off to meet the team at 'Satterfield's', a very swish restaurant in Vestavia Hills.

My first trip to visit the Brisbane wine trade was in 1998 with my then agent Curtis Marsh. It seems ironic that that visit took a day and a half and we seemed to cover all the major retailers and restaurants in the short amount of time. My trip in September 2009 was entered into with great excitement as I had heard how much the market had changed in the last decade.

I recently made some wine for an outfit from Denver Colorado called Cru Vin Dogs. Mary Snellgrove is the company president, and her husband Jay is an artist who represents the best of dogs with fine artworks on wine labels.

Grapes fermenting in the waxed cement vats at the old winery on Langmeil
Road. The regular pattern is caused by heading down boards that we used
to keep the grape cap below bubbling juice. Now we use pump overs.
Picture taken in the late 1970's. We made some outstanding wines under
these primitive conditions.
Great Rolf Binder
Rolf Binder talks about making and enjoying good wine with America's eminent magazine "Wine Spectator".
"My wife and I were on our way to the Northern Territory where I was to work. We drove through the Barossa on our long journey there, and popped into the old shed of Veritas Winery after a long day of wine tasting around the place. This was in 1987. We met Rolf Senior who was a lovely, gentle chap, and we spent quite a few hours just chatting about nothing and everything, and tasting some very good wines. A couple of gents from Sydney came in at one stage showing off their knowledge of everything there was to know about wine. Rolf just brushed them off in the nicest possible way, so they left, and we kept on drinking and whiling away the hours, talking about nothing and everything.
When we left Rolf gave us the little old-fashioned wine glasses from which we were tasting, and we still have them in our crystal cabinet at home."
Sir Gerard Brennan former Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia
